Usually, I prefer to identify with the politically unsophisticated, however some things are unforgettable: like the Vietnam war. Working the weekend of Operation Babylift in San Francisco 1975, still makes me well up 43 years later.

Until that weekend it never occurred to me these infants had American fathers and would have grown up outcast in Nam. Soldiers sleeping with the enemy was as foreign as the Moon. In addition, this was a war over opium poppy fields (?). America’s (?).

My children were in grade school when articles appeared how America was dumbing down American’s! Unbelievable? All this before Trump, Twitter, email, iPhones, fb, or Soylent Green!
