Ever Kiss A Gorilla?
It was my first day at the Gorilla Foundation and for some reason I was expecting to be escorted to Koko’s hang-out. But No! They pointed in the direction and off I went carrying a bag of items to entertain Koko ~
Knee-deep in baby-blue Forger-me-knots — I trudged my way across the mountain side to Koko’s compound. Each moment second-guessing my decision to work with this famous primate. What was I thinking?!
Koko seemed excited — mostly because she wanted to see what was in my big bag.
Nope! Not the Jack-in-the-Box ! Boring! Not the train! Next — or the next — not until I came to the cream-colored silky nightgown did she become excited.
This 350 pound hair ball grabbed her favorite chair — a three foot, upstanding slice of giant sewer-pipe, slapped a rubber tub on top and climbed in. If it is possible to see pure joy in a gorilla’s face, what took place next was priceless!
The gown was size Large — but looked small for a gorilla. Never-mind, she tugged and pulled, ripping a little here and a little there, but soon emerged from her tugging efforts wearing her new gown!
Ever see a gorilla smile? Me neither.
Lumbering from her perch she approached me in her new nightie… Not knowing what she had in mind, I prepared to run!
Funny Thing!
Around the neck of the gown — in the same color as the gown — was a row of tiny roses: each nestled in a netted heart shape and not more than an inch long. How she even focused on these tiny roses I’ll never know.
With her big crunchy, gorilla fingers she held up one tiny rosebud, looked up at me with her toothy grin, and signed — “Koko love!”
In that instant, us girls bonded — Forever!
